Cracker Jacks Day Nursery
At Cracker Jacks we promote a healthy lifestyle through our carefully selected nutritional menus, our key approach is to offer a variety of healthy food options that meet the dietary needs of children at different ages and stages of development. This includes providing a balance of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy products, limiting processed foods and added sugars. We use locally sourced meat from our local Butchers and all meals and puddings are cooked by our Nursery Cook, who is trained in nutrition and food safety and provides the nursery with balanced and varied delicious meals. We are pleased to say that we have been awarded a 5-star Kitchen rating!
In addition to providing nutritious food options, we also incorporate nutrition education into our daily curriculum. This includes teaching children about the importance of healthy eating and the benefits of different foods. Our staff eat with the children, providing role models for eating habits and for using cutlery, whilst talking to the children about what they are eating and where the foods came from etc. We also involve children in snack preparation, encouraging the children to cut and serve the fruit. We have a veggie patch in the nursery garden, and we all enjoy planting, nurturing, and picking the vegetables and fruit, which we then use for snacks and meals in the nursery, to help them develop a deeper understanding of where their food comes from and how it is grown. Our Pre-school children have visits to the local butchers that provide the meat to the nursery, to watch how sausages are made and to talk about the different meats available and where they come from, the children love this educational visit, especially when they return to eat the delicious sausages at the nursery!
